 WHICH ARE THE SKILLS OF THE NEUROSURGEON?



In two previous posts we have already seen what the figure of the neurosurgeon consists of (in a very concise way) and what his tasks are.


However, to be capable in carrying out his duties, as valid in every field and sector, the neurosurgeon must assume the SKILLS that are necessary precisely to be able to perform certain tasks. It is precisely these skills, assimilated with study, practice in the field, tutoring (commitment, perseverance and sacrifice) that make the doctor a neurosurgeon specialist.

However, a young neurosurgeon at the beginning of his career may not be immediately clear about what these skills are and make the mistake of focusing only on one field (for example neuroanatomy), leaving out what are other fundamental and equally necessary aspects to be known and assimilated.

In this regard, having clear what are the various "sectors" of competence of the neurosurgeon can be a good guide in building a complete and at the same time balanced training.

Attention! keep in mind that these "areas of expertise" still go BEYOND what must always be a solid and established training in GENERAL MEDICINE !. In other words, the above skills are necessary for a "specialist" training but it does NOT mean that the neurosurgeon should forget or neglect the "basic" medical concepts that make him first of all a doctor (" generic ") and then a specialist surgeon.

But then after so much talk, what does the neurosurgeon need to know to be a specialist in the subject and perform his duties?

1. NEUROANATOMY.

2. APPROACHES.

3. NEUROONCOLOGY.

4. NEURORADIOLOGY.

5. EMERGENCY NEUROSURGERY.

6. DEGENERATIVE (SURGICAL) PATHOLOGY.

This list will be "trivial" to some readers and "incomprehensible" to others. No fear. To the former I say that it is better to have clear even trivial concepts without ever saying anything for granted if you want to have a solid formation (a solid building is based first of all on solid foundations). To the second instead I say not to worry and to follow the blog because each of these concepts will be examined in detail one by one.

Salve a tutti gli "aspiranti" neurochirurghi del blog!!!.   Perdonate l'assenza ma il lavoro è sempre tanto e il tempo è sempre meno. FARE IL NEUROCHIRURGO... CHIARIAMOCI...

FARE IL NEUROCHIRURGO... CHIARIAMOCI...   PREMESSA!: questo post sarà volutamente "semplicistico" a scopo divulgativo. Fare il neurochirurgo è un lavoro complesso al punto che ai non addetti ai lavori non è completamente chiaro il suo ruolo e confondono questo con il neurologo o addirittura con lo psichiatra!. Capiamoci. Molto semplicemente il neurochirurgo è un CHIRURGO e quindi come tale, OPERA. Questo non è un dettaglio in quanto, chiarito questo, si capisce che gran parte delle patologie neurologiche (che quindi colpiscono il sistema nervoso) non essendo "DA OPERARE" NON sono di competenza del neurochirurgo (ma del neurologo o dello psichiatra). NOTA: da questo scaturisce un ulteriore concetto molto importante. Il compito principale del neurochirurgo è soprattutto (anche se non solo) dire ad un paziente con un problema SE si deve operare o meno!. Ad esempio: ho mal di schiena, faccio una risonanza magnetica e il radiologo mi dice che ho un ernia, vado dal neuro...

L'AMBULATORIO: LINFA VITALE DEL NEUROCHIRURGO

In due post precedenti abbiamo visto più nel dettaglio la figura del neurochirurgo e quali sono i suoi compiti  e quali le competenze richieste .  Fra i compiti del neurochirurgo abbiamo visto che rientra sicuramente l'ambulatorio che è il momento in cui il neurochirurgo entra in contatto con i suoi pazienti in elezioni ovvero pazienti che solitamente non hanno patologie che richiedono un intervento urgente e nei quali quindi è possibile fare o confermare una diagnosi e un inquadramento clinico terapeutico con la "sufficiente calma". Come abbiamo già visto in un post precedente le mansioni del neurochirurgo richiedono competenze e affinché neurochirurgo possa svolgere un ambulatorio moto valido garantendo un buon servizio ai suoi pazienti tre sono le competenze principali che deve avere come acquisite ovvero: 1. competenze di neurologia. 2. conoscenze di neuro-radiologia. 3. e deve padroneggiare ovviamente i concetti relativi alle patologie neurochirurgiche.
